About
MEET YOUR MAKER
Hello and welcome to SJS Custom Guitars! I want to personally thank you for visiting my website!
My name is Sam, the builder of SJS Custom Guitars. I began building instruments in the summer of 2015. My wife an I had gone up to New Hampshire for the day and entered a store that was selling cigar box guitars. After picking one up, and playing a few chords, I turned to her and told her that I could build one just like it. She looked at me like I was crazy, and said that I couln't do it. I knew that I could figure it out. Within a few months, I presented her with a gift of a hand made cigar box ukulele that I put together. It was here that my passions for woodworking and music merged.
I brought that ukulele to work to show it off to some coworkers who were musicians. Soon I recieved my first order. By the summer of 2016, I had build roughly 25 cigar box instruments. Since then I have perfected my craft with a number of experienced luthiers and woodworkers. By January 2019, I had roughly 100 builds under my belt including cigar box, electric, and acoustic builds.
As a craftsman, I take pride in attention to detail, design, and playability of my instruments. I also take pride in the fact that someone is making music from an instrument that was crafted by my hand. As an artist, it is my hope is that my instruments will make an impact in a meaningful way. Each instrument is a unique vision; the communication, connection and relationships built during the process is the journey. From the initial pencil design to the application the last coat of finish, this is a one of a kind experience that you will not get from buying from a big store or second hand. The ultimate goal is not just to build great sounding guitars or to create beautiful instruments, but to change the world one guitar at a time!
So, what are you waiting for? Lets start building!

SJS Original Headstock 1 - Fire
Each headstock with this shape is a unique option because I do not use a template; each one will be built custom for you. While it may resemble the likes of an oak leaf, it is also designed to look like a dancing flicker of a candle. The inspiration is based on a flickering candle light.
SJS Original Headstock 2 - Cobra
The design on this headstock is an imitation of the the shape a snake's head with its tongue sticking outward.
